Gift Ideas...

Sorry I've been a little MIA lately...I really have no excuses. But, I have been thinking about Christmas gifts a lot, and here are some great ideas (I think) from Southern Living.

1. Southern Magnolia Trees via Seeds of Life
For Christmas they even wrap the burlap bag (love) with a red ribbon.

2. Windowsill Herb Garden via Shop Green Village

3. Poinsettia - always a great gift, but so pretty in this basket with moss

4. A (cheap) mounted deer...I think they are fun, and a lot cheaper than the alternative.
Cardboard Safari has many other options if deer are not your thing...

5. Last but not least...a lantern made pretty by stuffing it with berries and winter shrubbery.

Hopefully these at least get your mind in the gift giving spirit...any neat ideas up your sleeve that I should know about?

Mary Mary Quite Contrary

Remember my recent post about the prints by Vincenzo Rizzo? I'm sure my multitudes of readers have bought his prints by now. Here is a display idea I saw today while perusing old Cote de Texas blog postings.

FYI Art News

Peter Doig's “Reflection (What Does Your Soul Look Like)” sold at Christie's auction for $10.1 million on Tuesday. It's interesting that this painting sold for much more than it was thought to be worth, while a Basquiat and Warhol fell way short at the same auction. I actually really like this painting. YOU?

Poncho Villa

I'm really enjoying ponchos right now. Too bad it's so hot in Houston that I look out of place!

Outdoor rooms

This streak of seasonable weather in Houston has made me think about my ideal outdoor room.

Not sure of source... sorry.

Impulse buy of the week

I've been needing a reading lamp for one side of my bed, so bought this last night at West Elm. I'm not sure if it was worth it, but I like the little guy.

"In a flash I have my new year's resolution - aim higher."

If I had to pick one person's style to emulate forever, I think it would be Sienna Miller. And while her on the street style is always (well, almost always) to die for...I have to say you can't really beat her persona in Alfie. It could just be because she is so freaking pretty in the film, but I find myself always coming back to this look.

La décoration est un art.

I cannot get enough of one of my new favorite designers, Benedikte Lecot. I especially like her use of doors, closets and moveable walls to hide TVs, knick knacks and other things that make houses junky!
